Fire Districts Across Southwest Florida
Every figure below comes from the 2025 certified tax rolls — the same public records behind your tax bill. Fire funding varies enormously between neighboring districts, and Amendment 3 would hit each one differently.
Collier County
Fire millage in Collier ranges from 1.0 to 4.0 mills — driven by tax base, not service level. A fixed-dollar exemption cuts deepest where homes are modest and homesteaded.

Lee County
Lee's spread is even wider, and Lehigh Acres already funds fire entirely by non-ad-valorem assessment (0 mills) — the model the other districts are weighing, running since 2020.

The equity pattern, in both counties
A fixed-dollar homestead exemption removes a bigger share of the tax base where homes are modest and mostly homesteaded — so the districts least able to absorb cuts face the deepest ones. Districts already funded by assessment (like Lehigh Acres) are immune to the exemption change entirely.
